There are three elements that go into setting up a good pasture for a horse: food, fencing and water.

Let’s begin with food.

A great place to start is your local Ag office. In most parts of North America, there are local, government run, county based, agricultural offices that are resident experts on local plants, crops and weeds. Check with them first to see if you have any toxic weeds in your field.

When the Ag office folks come by to check out your field, be sure to ask them about the overall quality of the grazing material that is already in your field.

After that, call your local large animal vet and get his input. These folks work in your area on large animals every day and would be up to speed on what is toxic and what isn’t.

Another place to check is your local gardening center/landscaper. These professionals are also very knowledgeable on local plants and can prove to be a store of helpful information.

It is not enough to just remove all the bad stuff from the field, although, that is a good and essential start, but while you are at it, check to see if what is left has any nutritional value. After all, if you have a field filled with non-toxic weeds, they may not do your horse any physical harm, but they are also not going to provide much nutrition.

On the other hand, if your field was previously used as an alfalfa hay field, you need to know that because it would be just as easy to get your horse sick on a too healthy, too rich diet.

In other words, you are looking for a well-balanced pasture. Too rich or too toxic are both recipes for disaster.

Maintaining a healthy, productive pasture is a year round job for every horseman who wants to get the most out of their pasture. By starting now, you should have a wonderful pasture by the time your horse arrives.

  • Store booking, breeding, and foaling information about all broodmares for each year.
  • Maintain health and teasing records.
  • Automatically calculate board and allocate charges to the appropriate owner(s) for billing and accounts receivable.
  • Automatically schedule procedures and maintain a “tickler” file of future items which are scheduled.
  • Allow flexibility in retrieving information by providing a variety of reports and on-screen inquiries with user adjustable options.

b) Gaming, is the other interpretation of the term horse racing software. This type of software allows horse racing fans to enjoy the experience of horse racing through the use of a computer.

To simulate different aspects of this sport there are different types of horse racing software. With this type of horse racing software, you can experience the life of a jockey, trainer or an owner and will give you a good insight into the sports side of horse racing. There is horse racing software designed to allow you to compete against other players from all over the world in real time.

There are also types of horse racing software which allows horse racing fans to place a bet on actual races online at race books or sports books and to enjoy the thrill of the horse racing without even leaving their homes. Often, this type of horse racing software comes with programs that give you all the statistics you need to make an informed decision on the right horse to place a bet on. Some software comes with media players so that you can watch the actual horse race from your home in real time.

To sum up, Horse Racing Software can be viewed two different ways. It could refer to a type of software which horse racing fans use to simulate racing horses or software used in managing information such as Horse Inventory, Breeding and Horse Health Record.
Depending on the interpretation you are using, we know that horse racing software definitely has computers involved and how much technology has changed the way we deal with horses now.

Interpretation and finding the right information you need is the key. As you can see, the interpretations of the term horse racing software are very different from each other.

(Part 3 of 3)

Modern horses are often used to re-enact their historical work purpose. One famous example is the Budweiser Clydesdales. This team of draft horses pull a beer wagon in a manner similar to that used prior to the invention of the modern motorized truck.

Horses are used, complete with equipment that is authentic or a meticulously recreated replica, in various historical reenactments of specific periods of history, and especially famous battles. Popular subjects include American Revolutionary War and Civil War re-enactments, as well as battles of the 19th century between the U.S. Cavalry and Native Americans, such as the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Horses also are used to preserve cultural traditions and for ceremonial purposes. Examples include the use of horses at tourist destinations such as Colonial Williamsburg or the presence of cavalry horses at significant funerals of military figures and heads of state. Countries such as the United Kingdom still use horse-drawn carriages to convey royalty and VIPs to and from certain culturally significant events.

Horses are frequently used in television and motion pictures to add authenticity to historical dramas as well as adding charm to films set in modern-day, or even futuristic science fiction settings.
